Our Story

For over thirty years, Arco ao Meio has been part of Rua dos Mártires da Liberdade. It opened early for the first coffee of the morning, filled up in the afternoon with those stopping for a coffee and a pastry, and in the evening welcomed those coming for a drink after dinner - back when coffee was still something you went out for. Outside, on the car-free street, children played while their parents stayed at the counter.

As Porto's nightlife grew, new customers and a different energy followed. Mr. Luís and Mrs. Isaura adapted, learned, and turned Arco ao Meio into a place for everyone: those who have their morning coffee on the terrace and those who show up for the last drink of the night.

We made it through the pandemic, restrictions and change. But the door stays open, the counter remains the same, and people keep coming back.

House Specialties

Two reasons people always come back.

Xiripiti shots at the counter

The Xiripiti

by Luís Lopes

The shot that's already a legend on Rua dos Mártires. We don't share the recipe - you'll have to come and try it.

Bifana in hand with Super Bock on the terrace

The Bifana

by Isaura Pereira

Simple, honest, as it should be. Made by the same hands for over thirty years. Some say it's the reason they keep coming back.

Our Space

Counter, marble tables, terrace, and plenty of history on the walls.
